It’s artichoke season and we’re diggin’ in on the green grub drenched in french butter. But there is so much more to be done with this fantastic flower, praised in Korean skin care for it’s beautifying benefits.
Artichokes are actually higher in antioxidants than most other veggies and antioxidants are essential for healthy happy skin. They basically protect the skin by limiting the production of free radicals, which can damage the skin cells. Artichokes also have the ability to minimize enlarged pores and helps to tighten them and to retain moisture. So don’t let those beautiful buds go to waste!
Make artichoke tea and dab it on your face
Cut the artichoke in quarters so the goodness can release into the water. Be sure to open up the petals to thoroughly clean the flower before you put it in water ( ca 7 dl for a halved artichoke). Bring to a boil, turn down the heat and let simmer without lid for 25 minutes. Let the tea cool down to room temperature before you put it in the fridge (it stays fresh for a week if kept cold). Then enjoy a glass of chilled artichoke tea the morning, it will help the liver to release toxins in your body. You can also soak a muslin cloth in the infusion and place it on your face for 15 minutes. Dab all remaining moisture into to skin and follow up with your moisturizer. This will help hydrate the skin and give gorgeous glow.
Turn the leaves into cooling eye patches
Cut the softer part of the leaves (right above the eatable base) into crescent shapes and place them under your eyes to diminish dark circles and puffy eyes. Place pre cut leaves in an air tight container and store in your fridge.
